Life of Indian revolutionary leader saved

6. January 2006

Letter of thanks for participating in the campaign for saving the life of comrade Narayan Sanyal alias Bijoy alias Prasad by the Revolutionary
Democratic Front (RDF)
Dear friends,

Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) expresses its gratitude to all those democrats who have assisted in exposing the illegal detention of the Indian Maoist leader comrade Narayan Sanyal (Prasad/ Bijoy) who was detained by Andhra Pradesh police in Raipur, Chattisgarh for seven days.

Finally comrade Narayan Sanyal was produced in a court in Kothagudem in Khamam district in Andhra Pradesh at 3 pm on 3rd January 2006 and sent for judicial remand for 15 days to Warangal Central prison. 22 criminal cases have been imposed on him, all of them are false and fabricated, which include Jehanabad Prison (Jail) breaking and an attempt to murder case on N. Chandrababu Naidu, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at Alipiri two years ago.

He was shown as arrested on January 3rd, 2006 in the morning at Bhadrachalam in Khammam district in Andhra Pradesh while traveling to Chattisgarh to meet Ramakrishna, another Central Committee member of CPI (Maoist). This is purely a concocted story of Andhra Pradesh police. In fact, as facts came out quite early in this bizarre episode, he was arrested on 28th December, 2005 in Raipur by a joint intelligence team of the central Govt., Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh who swooped on him around 3 pm and illegally detained him for 7 days and conducted interrogation.

Here we want to state just one important fact to lay bare the disingenuous conduct of the Indian State by quoting the words of Chhattisgarh Home Secretary B.K.S. Ray as quoted in a news item in India News posted on 03 Jan. 2006. “Prasad was picked up by Andhra police last week in a raid in Raipur and was taken to Hyderabad as he belongs to neighboring Andhra Pradesh”

“I have been informed that the 67-year-old Maoist leader is in the custody of Andhra Pradesh police. The Chhattisgarh government has nothing to do with the matter,” Ray told IANS.

CPI-Maoist Central Committee member Bijoy alias Prasad has been produced in a court of law only because of the widespread propaganda and exposure campaign unleashed by the activists of many mass organisations, civil and human rights organisations in India and abroad. Otherwise he would have been declared dead in another macabre killing zone of Andhra Pradesh in the name of encounter.

The CPI (Maoist) All India Spokesperson com. Azad, in a statement on 30-12-2005, stated that “Com. Vijay alias Prasad has a glorious history of participating in the revolutionary movement. Following the call of Com. Charu Majumdar, he jumped into Naxalbari movement leaving his Bank job in West Bengal, and continued his journey till date. He went to Bihar to become part of the movement there in 70’s and was arrested in 1973. He was kept in various prisons in west Bengal and Bihar till 1978. Inside the jail he led several struggles for the rights of the political prisoners. He stood steadfast for the unity of communist revolutionaries. The post-emergency movement to release the political prisoners forced the Bihar government to release him. Immediately he jumped into revolutionary movement and his efforts paved way to form CPI (ML) (Unity Organisation). Later it was metamorphosed into CPI (ML) (Party Unity) which led many heroic struggles in (the then) Central Bihar. He became the Secretary of the Central Committee of CPI (ML) (Party Unity) in 1987. When CPI (ML) (Party Unity) and CPI (ML) (PW) merged into CPI (ML) (PW) in 1998, Com. Vijay became its CC Member. He played an important role in the unity process between CPI (ML) (PW) and MCCI, which merged into CPI (Maoist) in September 2004. He became CC Member of the CPI (Maoist).”

In fact the arrest of comrade Narayan Sanyal is part of a larger design of the recently formed highly placed intelligence gathering team comprising central and 9 states’ intelligence wings with a view to concentrate on the top leadership of the Indian Maoist Party. As part of this sinister scheme launched about six months ago, comrade Shushil Roy, a veteran Maoist leader was arrested along with another Central Committee member Patitpawan in West Bengal.

The lives of these Maoist leaders have been saved because of the timely intervention of the activists and revolutionary masses and democrats and intellectuals. The Indian ruling classes have decided to act a’ la Turkey operation where several revolutionary leaders were lynched to death recently.

Though comrade N. Sanyal has been declared arrested still the struggle to defend his and other arrested senior comrade’s democratic rights of the Maoist Party will have to be carried out continuously and unswervingly to force the state to accept them as political prisoners. More importantly, to seek their unconditional release as it is the political right of a person to oppose and struggle against the wrong and oppressive policies of the state.

We thank you again for showing concern and acting in saving the life of Com. Sanyal and look forward for your further cooperation in securing the rights of comrade Sanyal, com. Sushil Roy, com. Patitpawan and other revolutionaries who are languishing in various prisons in India.
