Montreal, May 20th / A 17 member delegation from Quebec has been traveling across Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories since Sunday May 17 and is set to enter Gaza through the Erez Crossing Point on Thursday May 21st at around 9 AM local time. Shocked by the human rights violations of the Palestinians, the delegation has decided to go to Gaza. The delegation is comprised of membres of unions (FNEEQ, STTP/CUPW, SCFP/CUPE), of NGOs (Alternatives International, Ligue des droits et libertés, Marche mondiale des femmes/FFQ, Collectif de Québec pour la paix, Artistes pour la paix, Regroupement des maisons de jeunes du Québec, Funambules Médias, Collectif d’Abord solidaires), of Middle-East focused organisations (CJPP, PAJU, IJV, Coalition pour la justice en Palestine UQAM) and of Québec solidaire.
The purpose of this trip is to help end the siege of Gaza, to express solidarity with the Palestinian population, and to denounce Canada’s and Quebec’s position on the Palestinian question.
Several meetings with local groups are scheduled and a member of Artistes pour la paix has planned an artistic activity for children.
If the delegation is able to go through the Israeli checkpoints, it would be one of the first to do so since the Israeli attacks of this past winter.
Delegation members are available for interviews on location or by phone.
