The decisive battle is not behind us but in front of us

2/11/2008
Thesis on Venezuela 1. Unlike most of the left, both in Venezuela and in other countries, we supported the Fifth Republic Movement (MVR). Later (in 1998) we welcomed the election of Hugo Chávez Fràas as President of the Republic as an exceptional anti-imperialist victory and as the beginning of a new and positive step, not only for Venezuela but for all of Latin America.2. For the first time in decades, in a country which is decisive for the geopolitical balance of the continent, a leader had come to power who declared his radical hostility not only to imperialism, particularly US imperialism, but also to Venezuela's rotten, oligarchic two-party system, which is the expression of a corrupt and subservient capitalism. Chávez' anti-imperialism was not just for show. He was … [read more]

American Empire troubled

2/11/2008
Greetings to the Workers World Party In the name of the Anti-imperialist Camp we convey our warm and fraternal greetings to your conference, which takes place right at an important turn of the global situation. The U.S. Empire, as it has been built after the implosion of the USSR, is in decisive trouble. Its permanent war has been unable to suppress the popular resistances, which sprang up in across the world, especially in the Middle East. On the contrary, aggression has awakened increased resistance. This led to a situation in which the U.S. establishment has so far been unable to launch an attack on Iran, and which gave Russia the possibility to militarily defend the Caucasus as its sphere of influence. Without military intervention punishing its challengers, the American Empire … [read more]

A world without NATO is necessary

Mobilisation against NATO's 60th anniversary
26/10/2008
In April 2009 NATO will be celebrating its 60th anniversary in Strasbourg / Kehl right on the French-German border. A massive international mobilisation is under way to express the popular protest and refusal of this main instrument of Western capitalist and imperialist domination and war mongering.
On last October 4/5 an international conference took place in Stuttgart, Germany, to prepare the protests which issued the call below. The Anti-imperialist Camp not only endorses the call but urges everybody to massively participate.During the deliberations of the conference the Anti-imperialist Camp proposed to add following demands to the call in order to make it more concrete and to the point:x Withdrawal of all foreign troops from Afghanistanx No to the extension of NATO to the Eastx End occupation and war in the Middle EastAlthough this seemed to be consensus among the participants it nevertheless was not reflected in the conclusive text. We will continue to fight for those slogans to be adopted by the movement. As Anti-imperialist Camp we, however, go much further as we … [read more]

Call for an int'l campaign against the enlargement of NATO
15/10/2008 · Anti-imperialist Camp
The very quick military victory of the Russian army in Georgia has a positive strategical importance, because it achieved four fundamental results at one time:
1) it wounded to death the puppet Saakashvili, whom, from 2003, had made Georgia the vanguard of the euro-atlantic alliance in Caucasus; 2) it destroyed the myth of "coloured revolutions" and therefore put an and to the Western imperialism's pretension to bring its puppets to power thanks to the "democratic" mobilization of the masses; 3) it put an and to the euro-american pretension to mutilate Russia's geopolitical power by widening NATO towards the East (Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia); 4) therefore, it undermined in a fatal way the Northern American imperial and unipolar plan. But the new balance of power which came out from the Russian victory is fragile, and exposed to a certain Northern American counter-offensive. The United States, taken by surprise by the Russian strike, are … [read more]

"Georgia must rebuild its ties to Russia"

8/10/2008
Interview with Lasha Shavdia, Anti-war Movement Georgia Q: Did Georgia's president Saakashvili emerge from his war of last summer weakened or strengthened?Definitely weakened. It is a tragic mistake to believe that the territorial integrity of our country can be resorted by military means, a mistake to be paid for by the Georgian people. The defeat was predictable. Russia had repeatedly declared that it will rush to the defense of South Ossetia - different to 1990.Q: Many signs indicate that a majority wants to follow their president into NATO.This is not true. In early 2008 a referendum was held where supposedly 79% voted for the accession to NATO. But these are no real figures, especially after the war. The war demonstrated that the assumption, that NATO could secure the territorial … [read more]

Mahmoud Darwish: The death of the last metaphor

12/9/2008
The Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish passed away on the 9th of August 2008 while undergoing heart surgery. Politically very debatable, as a poet though, he was one of the most senior, modern Arab poets. With his death also died a symbol character of the Arab world, but most of all died the Palestinian cultural movement. Born in the year 1941 in Barwe, in northern Palestine, Darwish experienced the Nakba of 1948 as a child, during the creation of the Zioninst state, in which a million people were forced out of their land. His family fled to Lebanon, but came right back to Palestine using secret paths. The destructed village Barwe was not allowed to be rebuilt thus Darwish had to grow up as a "refugee in his own land".As a second class Arab citizen in Israel, he joined the Israeli … [read more]

The Crisis of Zionism and a Perspective for Palestinian Approach

29/8/2008
by Yoav Bar * This paper is written as a contribution to the discussion in the Anti Imperialist Camp about perspectives for work within the imperialist countries. The situation in Palestine is very different from that of Europe or the US. Since the beginning of the Zionist colonization of Palestine, some 130 years ago, Jews in Palestine were a small enclave of settler population in the midst of the Arab homeland. Colonialism is not external expansionism of some imaginary "western-capitalist Israel", but the essence of Israel's existence. Palestine is an occupied colonized country, where the real center of political life is the struggle against the occupation. Any progressive struggle within the Jewish community in Palestine should be part of the perspective of Palestinian liberation. From … [read more]

U.S. to be blamed for massacre in Tskhenvali, but warning against Russian imperial appetites By Serguei A. NovikovThe first power to blame is the USA as they were behind Georgia trained and armed Saakashvili and actually blessed him and gave him their support even after the terror in Tskhenvali.Russia is to blame for a very late reaction that resulted in the massacre in Tskhenvali and cost hundreds of lives, while all the local people had known about this bloody Georgian adventure at least a week before and started to leave this city.Georgia is to blame for the massacre -- for the attempt to gain the "territorial integrity" of Georgia by iron and blood in the first day of the Olympic Games and in August, when most of the officials are on holidays. Saakashvili showed himself as a … [read more]

Caucasus: whose aggression?

The Western media keeps pounding us with a Russian aggression against tiny helpless Georgia. The very facts speak, however, a different language. The Western media keeps pounding us with a Russian aggression against tiny helpless Georgia. Georgian propaganda to mobilise its population like the story of an imminent attack on the capital Tbilisi as well as comparisons with the invasion of Afghanistan or Czechoslovakia simply were reproduced by the cooperate media. The very facts speak, however, a different language. It was the extremely pro-imperialist Georgian president Saakashvili to order the attack on South Ossetia. The invasion of the Georgian troops into the province's capital Tzinvali left at least several hundreds if not thousands civilian dead and caused a mass flight of … [read more]

Afghan political prisoners cry for help

13/8/2008
Call from Policharkhi Prison Following call was passed on to the Anti-imperialist Camp by the underground revolutionary anti-imperialist movement in Afghanistan which is participating in the popular resistance movement against the U.S.-led Western occupation. It was smuggled out from Policharkhi which even according to CNN "is the most notorious prison in Afghanistan" (Feb 26, 2006). The Western installed regime together with the occupation forces keep an unknown number of political prisoners belonging to the various trends of the resistance. Most of them originate from the Islamic movement but some also belong to the leftist movement. One should not forget that under the new "democratic" regime affiliation to a communist organization is threatened by capital punishment. We are … [read more]

Biggest ever U.S. naval built-up in the Gulf

France and Britain following suit
13/8/2008
As we write, the arrival of new U.S. warships will mark the largest build-up of Naval forces in the Gulf since the 1991 Gulf War.
The aircraft carriers USS Theodore Roosevelt and the USS Ronald Reagan, along with the USS Iwo Jima, an Amphibious Assault Ship are sailing toward the Persian Gulf to reinforce the US strike forces in the region, along with a British Royal Navy carrier battle group and a French nuclear hunter-killer submarine. This move follows the ominous Operation Brimstone, a massive military exercise involving more than a dozen warships from the US, England, and France in the Atlantic Ocean in preparation for a possible confrontation with Iran. The USS Roosevelt, which participated in the just-concluded exercise, and the USS Ronald Reagan will join two US naval battle groups in the area: the USS Abraham Lincoln with its Carrier Strike Group Nine ; and the USS Peleliu, and Amphibious Assault Ship … [read more]

Declaration of the Georgian Peace Committee Once more Georgia was launched into a situation of chaos and bloodshed. A new fratricidal war exploded with renewed strength on Georgian soil.To our great disappointment, the alerts of the Georgian Peace Committee and of progressive personalities of Georgia on the pernicious character of the militarization of the country and on the danger of a pro-fascist and nationalist policy had no effect. The authorities of Georgia once again organized a bloody war, feeling the support of some western countries and of regional and international organizations.
