Report: No-Euro Forum in Italy to look for a common left exit strategy
28/9/2016 · by Gernot Bodner
The No-Euro Forum in Chianciano gathered left organizations from several European countries and the Ukraine under the common understanding of the need to break with the common currency.
Marco Zanni
The location of the third European No-Euro-Forum itself, Chianciano Terme in Tuscany, can be considered symbolic for the urgent need of an exit strategy to leave the corset of the currency union: during the 80ties it was a prosperous small town with it’s hot springs and hundreds of hotels where workers and pensioners spent their spa stays, financed from a growing economy and the social rights that were conquered. Today, 30 years after without investment, the infrastructure leaves a curious old-style-feeling (in modern terms „retro“) and it is largely empty. One and a half decades of economic recession, deconstruction of the welfare state and an increasing number of unemployed and precarious workers without access to social rights has left traces. The numerous congresses that gather … [read more]

Ukraine: reconciliation instead of repression

Statement of European personalities in support of democratic forces

We are seriously concerned about the facts of the systematic pressure on the opposition in Ukraine.
Peace for Ukraine
On September 4th, right-wing radicals had the attacked “Inter” TV channel. The channel’s office was burned by nationalists, only the miracle helped to avoid human casualties. Threats of physical violence are coming against journalists and editors of “NewsOne” channel. In fact, all of the independent media are facing direct violence or the threat of violence from nationalist organizations. We are also very concerned about information that right-wing radicals are controlled and directed by high-rank Ukrainian state officials and leadership of law enforcement authorities. Attacks on the media synchronized with the pressure of the authorities on the opposition leaders. What is in retrospect your position on the free trade agreement between Ukraine and the EU? The agreement is actually detrimental to Ukraine’s national economic interest. There was a populist element in the propaganda of the forces which staged the military coup like for example facilitating visa etc. We should immediately cancel the trade agreement and rebuild the economic ties with Russia and the entire region in order to serve our national interest. The popular uprising in the east has been directed also against this unjust agreement. If the rebellion had won, if national interest had not been betrayed, civil war could have been averted. As the socio-economic arguments of the elites in favour of the Euro regime have been evaporating, left-liberalism withdraws top a defence line depicting the EU as guarantor of peace. Not only that free-trade steamrolling continues to inflict poverty on Africa and the capitalist periphery as a whole thus stoking conflicts, there is also the special case of Ukraine giving lie to the Europeanist claim.
Alexej Albu (in the middle with bandage) in front of the union bldg in Odessa
The EU intended to force Ukraine into a neo-liberal free-trade agreement largely cutting its vital economic tries to Russia. The internal conflict over this capitulation allowed the nationalist bloc to seize state power. As the vast majority of the south-eastern population did not want to be ruled by rightist anti-Russian forces a popular rebellion developed which the Kiev regime put down by military force. In Donbass, the old Soviet industrial heartland, they, however, failed while the popular forces could take over with Russian support. A peaceful solution could be very simple and the Minsk agreement does contain it: autonomy for Donbass. What it does not provide for is democracy for the south-east like Odessa and Charkow which would also vote against Ukrainian nationalism. But Kiev … [read more]

The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague has determined that the late Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic was not responsible for war crimes committed during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

The March 24th Karadzic judgment states that “the Chamber is not satisfied that there was sufficient evidence presented in this case to find that Slobodan Milosevic agreed with the common plan” to permanently remove Bosnian Muslims and Bosnian Croats from Bosnian Serb claimed territory.[1] The Karadzic trial chamber found that “the relationship between Milosevic and the Accused had … [read more]

Democracy and Popular Sovereignty instead of Neoliberal Integration and a failed Euro-System

Platform of the Lexit network
30/6/2016
With the implementation of the European single market and the Maastricht Treaty, European integration was established as a neoliberal project for the long run. The Stability- and Growth Pact, the fundamental freedoms of the single market and the European monetary union, among other elements, constituted a framework that has fueled austerity policies, the dismantling of workers’ rights and the welfare state and imposed privatization throughout the EU member states.
Contrary to the theory of the EU as a neutral level playing field, the events after the Great Recession (2007/2009) have shown that the current European integration project is defined by the regressive nature of its treaties and by an unprecedented radicalization of its neoliberal character. Uneven and hierarchical power relations (core – periphery) have long been a feature of European integration, finally culminating in Germany’s dominance of the EU’s economic policy orientations after the Great Recession. The regulatory developments that accompanied the establishment of the Eurozone and the measures taken in response to the Euro crisis through the imposition of ever stricter and ever less legitimated rules and governance structures (EuroPlus-Pact, Firscal Compact, etc.) deepened … [read more]

It is nowadays obvious that the European Union has, in reality, nothing to do with the heavy promises and colorful declarations that from time to time have been. If for the former generations it has been related with feelings of well-being, prosperity and security, as expressed by the moto “A powerful Greece of Euro, part of the European Elite” etc, for the young generations it is not the case anymore. The youth has known a European Union, which: - Imposes unending Memoranda, faces our country as a colony and auctions its wealth and its productive forces, like in the case of the public corporations (ex. Inner-Syrian attempt to bridge conflict: devolution

Multi-sided group proposes constitutional principles

From April 27-29, 2016, more than two dozens Syrians with diverse affiliations met in Austria’s Peace Castle Schlaining. They intended to explore routes to a social contract which would need to accompany a ceasefire tackling the underlying conflicts of the civil war. The main conclusion: decentralization.
Syria: Schlaining II participants
The “All Syrian Consultation on the future Constitution of Syria” took place under the auspices of the international “Peace in Syria” initiative. The latter was set up in the early stages of the conflict when the popular revolt was already showing substantive signs of turning into a civil war with an increasing sectarian momentum. It has been based on the principle of opposing foreign intervention and defending the right to self-determination. From the very inception we shared the view of many Syrians that militarization will drive sectarianism and vice versa. We wanted to lend a platform to all those searching for a political solution in the triangle of historically diverging interests the Assad regime proved to be unable to reconcile: The Sunni Islamic pole with its political … [read more]

On the progressing loss of consensus for the neo-liberal regime
5/5/2016 · by Wilhelm Langthaler
The results of the first round of the presidential elections were an unexpected shock for the ruling Grand Coalition composed of Social-democrats and Christian-conservatives. This has been the political formula for the neo-liberal regime ever since the late 1980s. But the popular masses more and more turn their backs on them. The point of collapse is coming closer. The opposition from below, however, is being articulated mainly by a cultural chauvinist refusal of Islamic migration and is led by the historic right-wing forces.
Presidential elections first round
New ascendancy of FPÖ – social-cultural protest from below The sweeping success of Hofer, the Freedom Party’s candidate, is first of all expression of the protest by the subaltern classes. If the post-poll analysis can be trusted, about two-third of the workers cast their ballots for him. The pattern is known from earlier elections. In the historically industrial cities the lower segments of the former SP constituencies turn to FPÖ. For SPÖ has tied itself organically to the party of the big capital, ÖVP. Even more, it has taken the lead of the historic bloc of neo-liberalism. Parliamentary expression of this amalgamation is the explicit exclusion of the FPÖ from any governmental participation spelled out in the late 80s and adhered to ever since. Only by keeping this door … [read more]

For a broad front of democratic forces for popular and national sovereignty to bring down the EU
21/4/2016 · by Moreno Pasquinelli
I do not think we need to explain that the European Union is an imperialist consortium; that it was formed under the best auspices of the US and NATO as anti-Soviet prostheses; and even to indicate that the Union’s advance corresponded to a historic defeat of the working class and social struggles cycle started in the '60s. Nor do we have to remember that the European Union focus on the single currency is not just an economic community based on neo-liberal paradigms, but a real political regime.
The crash came from the United States in 2007-2008 exposed the structural flaws of the single currency regime and its unsustainability: many eurozone countries are grappling with the biggest recession in its history, acute imbalances instead of convergence between the countries; extermination of companies and destruction of productive forces; collapse of investment; Growth of bank insolvencies and parallel paralysis of loans; increase in public and private debt; double-digit unemployment; decline in consumption, growth of social inequality. From the economic sphere, the crisis is thus passed to the political and institutional. The four figureheads remaining: Oskar Lafontaine (former German minister), Stefano Fassina (former Italian minister), Zoe Konstantopoulou (former Greek parliamentary president) and Jean-Luc Mélenchon (leader of the French Left Party). A reason for this further zigzag of Varoufakis’s might be his announcement of a plan C. The regulatory developments that accompanied the establishment of the Eurozone and the measures taken in response to the Euro crisis through the imposition of ever stricter and ever less legitimated rules and governance structures (EuroPlus-Pact, Firscal Compact, etc.) deepened … [read more]

Greece: left student alliance to run against EU

Elections in higher eduction May 18
17/5/2016 · Youth’s Left Network, Greece
Youth’s Left Network is a left faction in Greek universities and is active in most of the university schools of Greece. Its goal is to combine the struggle for Free and Public Education with the struggle for the independence of Greece from the European Union. In the coming student elections of 18th May, where around 90.000 students will vote, Youth’s Left Network will participate through a common ballot with EAAK (linked to ANTARSYA and Popular Unity) and AREN (linked to ex-SYRIZA Youth). [P.S. They scored 16% of the votes.]
The case of the Greek Airports), which, through Public Debt imposes the Privatizations’ Fund, which passes companies from the Greek public sector to… the German … [read more]

Inner-Syrian attempt to bridge conflict: devolution

Multi-sided group proposes constitutional principles
5/5/2016 · by Wilhelm Langthaler, co-founder and adviser of PeaceInSyria.org

Austria: right-wing workers vs. left-wing upper classes?

Nazis beat Leftist Union leader in Ukraine

24/4/2016
In the working trip to Zaporizhzhya City the leader of the Union of Leftist Vasyl Volga was strongly beaten by Nazis
Before the press conference in Zaporizhzhya City Vasily Volga was attacked. More than 30 radical neo-Nazis took part in beating the leader of the UL. Vasyl Volga was unguarded, and refused for their demand to leave the Zaporizhzhya. Vasyl Volga in the framework of his visit to the cities of Ukraine draws the attention of the citizens of Ukraine on the need to stop the war and confrontation in the society, to start a public dialogue between the parts of Ukraine torn by war. Vasyl Volga also believes that the nationalist propaganda of the Ukrainian authorities are trying to cover up the catastrophic rate of decline of the economy, well-being of citizens and the impoverishment of the state. Thus, the current government is for the military theme a convenient excuse not to carry out … [read more]

The jump to the United States of Europe, recondite goal of the new neoliberal financial aristocracy, there will never, we go instead toward a new stage of the … [read more]

In the recent years the world has witnessed once again the rise of fascism and fascist groups all over the world. However, there has been growing resistance against this global spread of fascism. The people of Eastern Ukraine took up arms to fight against fascism in Ukraine. They founded the People’s Republics of Donetsk and Lugansk and they are able to defend them. This is why we are planning this year an antifascist conference in Donbass. Paris Plan B conference on Euro regime

Save or overcome the EU?
17/1/2016 · by Wilhelm Langthaler
Eventually the Plan B summit will take place January 23-24, 2016, in Paris. It had to be postponed due to the emergency state imposed by the anti-democratic and Islamophobic French government.
Find here the announcement and programme of the conference. First of all one will notice that the former Greek finance minister Varoufakis has disappeared from the agenda. Claiming that the return to national monetary sovereignty would result in a disaster, he actually recovers the failed plan A – as if nothing had happened: No lessen drawn from the humiliating capitulation inflicted on the Greek people by the troika, Varoufakis continues to float the … [read more]

7/1/2016 · Anonymous Ukrainian democratic activists in exile and supporters
The Ukrainian campaign against any activists who oppose the Kiev regime goes on and on. Several thousand of political prisoners including communists, pro-Russian activists e.t.c. taken captive by SBU (State security service of Ukraine) stay at prisons without any court for months and years, bearing tortures through their incarceration. Regime persecutes everyone who dares to oppose it in any possible way. Here is an example based on facts:
Grubnik Vladimir Yurievich
On the 19th of October, 2015, Grubnik Vladimir Yurievich, a doctoral candidate of Medicine, a lecturer at Odessa National Medical University (Department of surgery) and a surgeon at Odessa Municipal clinical hospital was arrested in Odessa by force. He was an activist who participated in the events on Kulikovo Field [massacre committed by right-wing Ukrainian nationalists in Odessa where dozens of anti-Maidan activists we killed] and contributed medical aid to his comrades who suffered traumas during those events. He refused to accept the inhuman and illegal regime and after that he shared the fate of many who dared to speak up.
